How to Get the Best and Give Your Best in the Workplace

1. Create Aligned Goals

It can be easy as a business leader to believe you know what’s best for your business, and you often do. But, if you don’t get input from your staff on your company’s vision and goals, you will be steering a ship of crew members that regularly depart the journey rather than commit to the ride for the long-haul.

2. Respect Individual Personalities

It can be both frustrating and stimulating having differing personalities to engage with each day, but let’s face it, if we were all made from the same mould, work life would be boring. There is value in each staff member bringing a unique perspective and personality to your organisation’s projects, products and services.

There are a wide range of personality tools like the Enneagram, DiSC, MBTI, Six Thinking Hats, and Simple Symbol to help decide who to hire and how to get the best from each person you hire. These tools also help alert business leaders to red flag situations when staff may be struggling and how best to navigate your organisation’s ship before it starts sinking.

Be courageous and generous in the way you get your best from your team instead of restricting them to fit into a mould they may just not be suited to.

3. Give People a Chance to Grow

When you give your staff a chance to stretch themselves out of their comfort zone into a new rhythm of confidence and conviction, you create a way for them to strengthen their relationship with your organisation and with themselves.

Give your people the opportunity to shine in what they already do well and in discovering the satisfaction of learning how to strive to be better each day. There is balance in being good at what you already do and better at what you learn how to do.

These are just three ways I give a sh*t about the people in my organisation. You may have your own three ways to care or you may have realised it’s time to make the time to care. Whatever way you swing, thanks for taking the time to read my blog.
